Power operates both relationally and reciprocally. Sociologists speak of the balance of power between parties. Sociologists usually analyze relationships in which the parties have relatively equal or nearly equal power – a symmetrical peer relationship rather than an asymmetrical power relationship. But the concept of 'Power' implies the connotation of unilateralism. If it wasn’t, then all relationships could be described in terms of 'power', and its meaning would be lost.
In my work I imagined a point of deadlock in the competition over power, an imaginary still stand in evolution, a true equilibrium in the distribution of powers, a divine balance.
The medium of symmetrical paper cut, allows me to freeze this artificial, unobtainable moment and visualize it with Rorschach test-like graphic punch as relational symmetry.
Watch how I do it. To see more paper cuts of my Balance of Power series, please click on this link: http://mindoverman.blogspot.com
